Canada Day is just around the corner and we’re feeling as patriotic as ever—with current world events, it’s safe to say that we’re extremely lucky to be able to call ourselves Canadian. While there are many things we can be grateful for leading up to Canada Day, we think there’s one thing in particular that we can all celebrate as Canadians: our beloved maple syrup, of course!

Wel known as a delicious breakfast addition, maple syrup actually has many benefits when both consumed and applied in a beauty routine. Sure, it may be sugar and calorie-dense, but maple syrup is also full of compounds touted for their health benefits.

Maple syrup has been found to contain and host of natural minerals such as calcium, vitamin B, zinc, potassium and magnesium. Moreover, maple syrup has various antioxidant properties that are essential for healthy living. Antioxidants are important for both the body and skin has they neutralize free radicals, which cause various ailments.

Similar to honey, sugar maple (Acer saccharum) extract works as a naturally derived hydroxyl acid when used in skincare, and can help to lower skin inflammation, redness, blemishes and dryness. Just think of how maple trees thrive and survive harsh Canadian winters—and harnessing that, for your skin! Sugar maple extract also contains naturally occurring malic acid, which helps to promote smoother, younger looking skin by increasing the rate of cell renewal.

Maple sap itself is also popular for beauty products due to its high level of absorption because of the smaller size of its molecules (they are smaller than water molecules!). Therefore, sugar maple extract can deliver its host of nutrients into the skin and hair—and quickly at that.

Below we have featured three products that proudly contain Canadian sugar maple extract as an ingredient. To learn more about each, read on!
