The toning and rejuvenating properties of frankincense make it one of the most important oils for invigorating the complexion, particularly for mature skin, and repairing skin damage. It has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory qualities, which make it useful for healing wounds. Its distinctive aroma has a soothing effect on the nervous system than can both uplift and calm.

 What is it good for?

Repairs and protects skin. Boswellic acid gives frankincense oil an anti-inflammatory, skin-healing action, which is why it has become such a popular ingredient in skin-care products.

Combats signs of aging. Frankincense oil has a rejuvenating effect, especially on mature skin. It minimizes wrinkles and fine lines, and reduces the appearance of scars and blemishes.

Tones skin. The astringent quality of frankincense oil has an overall toning effect on the skin. A 5-minute steam facial can help cleanse pores, increase circulation, and tighten skin. You can easily make an effective toner by adding 1-2 drops of frankincense essential oil to 50ml of water. Apply to your skin with a cotton wool ball to cleanse skin and tighten pores.

Acts as an antiseptic. Use frankincense oil topically to help heal wounds and skin ulcers. Remember to dilute it, as it should not be used neat on skin.

Relieves stress. The essential oil is a popular choice in aromatherapy, as it can relieve anxiety, calm and lift the spirit, increase energy and focus, and aid meditation.

Eases aches and pains. The boswellic acid frankincense is a powerful anti-inflammatory. Topical application as part of a massage oil blend or lotion can help reduce swelling and ease arthritis and rheumatic pain

Cancer-fighting properties. Preliminary studies have shown that the compounds found in frankincense may have a role to play in the fight against many types of cancer, including skin cancer.

Enhances sense of well-being. The oil has aromatherapeutic value, helping to increase contentment and positivity. For a centring and calming fragrance, try blending frankincense oil with ylang ylang, geranium, bergamot, patchouli, clary sage, and cypress oils.
