Collagen is a protein found in connective tissue that supports the skin’s strength and firmness while elastin helps maintain elasticity and aid in wound healing. Over time, these two proteins breakdown and can lead to visible signs of aging. This is where white tea comes in!
White, green and black tea all originate from the same plant, the camellia sinensis. What differentiates each type of tea is its age when picked and the length of time the plant is processed. White tea is picked the earliest and processed for the shortest amount of time, so it retains the highest levels of antioxidants and skin supporting compounds. These antioxidants can help protect the skin from UV and free radical damage. Studies done in partnership with Kingston University showed that white tea can inhibit the enzymes that gobble up collagen and elastin to help keep skin looking its best!
